It would have been insane had they picked anyone else. The paper did also endorse Gordon Smith, though. Even from a nonpartisan perspective, Obama is clearly so much more of an even-keeled, intelligent leader than McCain, a wildcard gambler more than a 'maverick'. Then there's his granddaughter the VP candidate, who makes Quayle look like Lincoln.
